Discover the profound pursuit of literature as a lifelong passion, and allow this journey to guide you in your quest for artistic expression. The city that once stood as an unsplendid backdrop to the surrounding landscape has now become a local community, with its struggles and triumphs being shared among its residents. As a writer, one’s identity is not only defined by their writing but also by the journey they embark upon—time after time, they face obstacles, memories to confront, and fates to influence.
As a seasoned literary editor, I have completed the editing of my collection 《陌生的城市》 (《Nizhne seryiati v sbornike`). This project was fulfilling at that point because it allowed me to unwind from the rigid constraints of academic publishing while focusing on the essence of storytelling. As I continue this work, I must remain vigilant against the potential pitfalls of a narrative’s execution—misdirections, misrepresentations, and even misunderstandings.
The transition from my teaching career (35 years) to entering the realm of cultural phenomenon as a literary editor is a profound shift in perspective. While the past twenty years have been a time for quiet reflection and introspection, the present feels like a moment of clarity—something that once was too vague but now resonates with an inner fire.
This journey has not been without challenges. In my writing career alone, I have encountered moments where my thought process becomes disorganized—decisions become haphazard, ideas seem scattered, and progress seems stalled in its tracks. These moments of uncertainty are normal—and that’s okay—it is a reflection on what can be expected from one’s craft.
The value of writing lies not in achieving a desired outcome but in gaining the satisfaction of bringing something to life. For me, this means immersing myself in the fabric of human experience—learning about others through their words, exploring the past through the lens of present reality, and reflecting on the future with an eye toward the possibilities that lie ahead.
As I continue my writing journey, I will carry forward a certain level of humility. Not all ideas or projects will succeed; however, each one will also fail in ways that are no more meaningful than their success—when they do. My writing is not about achieving fame or popularity but about finding the truth, adding it to an ever-growing body of knowledge, and contributing to a world that thrives on deepening understanding.
I believe that literature has always been a reflection of human life’s complexity. It captures the unspoken rules of social relationships, the ways in which cultures thrive or fail, and the challenges faced by individuals in their everyday struggles. I have learned that even in an age where we seem to be consumed by material wealth, literature still thrives—a world full of ideas, voices, and stories.
As I reflect on this journey, I realize that my writing is not just about escaping the confines of my past—but it is also about becoming part of a community. By sharing my thoughts, experiences, and insights, I am contributing to a broader conversation—whether or not someone will take the time to read me—I believe that in doing so, I become more than just a writer; I become a reader.
In conclusion, literature is not merely a form of art—it is an expression of the human condition. It invites us to reflect on our lives, to experience moments of wonder and pain together. Like any other human endeavor, it requires courage, patience, and the willingness to engage with ideas that challenge us—our own and those of others.
As I continue my writing journey, I will carry forward a belief in the power of words to reshape the world around me. In this moment, I am both a writer and a reader—reading not just my own works but also the ones of countless others who have come before me.
